Sea of Grey: Our Third Album, Two Years in the Making

•TOBIAS LORSBACH

Sea of Grey by Sven Laux & Logic Moon is out on Whitelabrecs. Eight pieces of cinematic ambient, a limited CD in a gatefold sleeve, and a few things I shared in the interview about how it came together.

Sea of Grey is out. Since 17 October 2026 you can hear the third album by Sven Laux & Logic Moon on Whitelabrecs, and I’m happy and a little relieved to finally write that sentence.

The Album

Eight pieces, built from classical piano motifs, strings, ambient textures and electronic atmospheres. Old amplifiers, radios and tape recorders leave small traces of age in the sound, and the production moves between intimacy and vastness.

  1. It Is Calling You
  2. The Fog
  3. Follow The Waves
  4. The Lighthouse
  5. All Is Not Lost
  6. Embrace The Solitude
  7. Sea of Grey
  8. The Arrival

The title describes the mood better than I could. Grey here is not emptiness. It is weight, ambiguity, a landscape somewhere between certainty and uncertainty: an overcast and open atmosphere, neither hopeful nor despairing. Sven has come up with the titles on all three albums so far, and I think he does a great job with them.

Two Years, Three Albums

Sven and I go back about 20 years. We met through my label SpontanMusik, and this was never a purely online collaboration. We’ve hung out in Berlin and in Mainz, played records together and made music in the same room. That shared history is a big part of why working on albums feels so natural now.

Sea of Grey follows The Unavoidable Death of Loneliness (2022) and The Quiet Companion (2023). Each of our albums took roughly a year. This one took about two, the longest so far.

What changed? We’ve become more confident and settled in how we work together. I honestly think we raised the quality another notch, both in the writing and in the production.

How We Work

Not very mysterious. Sven and I both work in Ableton Live, so exchanging projects is simple. We share everything through my cloud server, nothing fancier than that. Who leads differs from track to track. Some pieces were mostly built by one of us, others mostly by the other, and in the end it only matters that the result feels like it belongs to both of us.

For me, almost everything happens inside the laptop these days. I used to be surrounded by hardware and found it mostly a distraction. I work towards ideas and results, so I want as much space around me as possible. Guitar is the exception, recorded with microphones or as an electric guitar.

And the feeling? I never decide in advance what a piece should feel like. A feeling has no edges, and a picture has no sound, so the work is to find the frequencies where they meet. I let the chaos in, and then I give it just enough order to be heard.

The Physical Edition

For everyone who likes to hold their music: Whitelabrecs made a limited deluxe edition of Sea of Grey in a run of 100 copies. It is modelled on the classic gatefold vinyl LP, with printed front, rear and inner sleeves and a card sleeve that holds a gold vinyl-effect CDr. The artwork is by nkl, with design by Andrew Heath.

What’s Next

In 2025 I set myself the goal of releasing something every month, and that’s one of the reasons I founded my own label, The Moon Records. More artists are joining, and several collaborations are in progress, including a new project with Sven. We plan to release that EP on The Moon Records. Whether it goes towards vinyl, CD or cassette is still open, but print on demand makes it realistic for the first time.

A live performance has come up several times over the years. I haven’t put one together yet because it’s not as simple as it sounds, but the idea is alive. If we find the right concept, we’ll do it. A livestream is an option too.

Listen

Sea of Grey is on Bandcamp. If you only have time for one track, start with the title piece and let it run. And if you like it, tell someone. That is still the best promotion there is.

Thank you to Sven, to Whitelabrecs, and to everyone who listens.
